The Mission

The mission of the Orloff Memory Support Unit (OSCU) at Weinberg Village is to preserve and protect the dignity and well-being of individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and other dementing illnesses as they face the challenges of their late-life stages. We are here to support them, within their individual capacity, in a therapeutic, safe, comfortable, loving and peaceful environment.

We believe that support staffs, our residents and their families are crucial to ensure their well-being.

What is a Memory Support Unit?

Memory Support Units are specialized facilities which provide specialized residential care for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease or a related disorder. Memory Support Units provide a physical environment, activities, staff training and program philosophy which address the special needs of individuals with memory loss and related behavioral challenges.

Weinberg Village has just completed construction of a beautifully appointed, brand new Special Care Unit meeting all the guidelines set forth by the Alzheimer's Association under the guidance of experts from the University of South Florida.

A Secure Environment

The Orloff Memory Support Unit at Weinberg Village is a completely self-contained unit designed to provide a secure environment which allows residents with dementia, who often wander and become disoriented, to move about freely and safely, both indoors and out, without a sense of confinement. The OMSU is secure at several levels including perimeter security, staff supervision and monitored doors.

The Memory Support Unit is designed with visual clues throughout the area to help orient residents. Color coded rooms, easily accessed bathroom facilities, floors and hallways that do not impede walking, uncluttered spaces with well-lit and well-marked paths, and short distances between bedrooms and activity rooms all help to minimize confusion and help compensate for cognitive losses.

We strive to minimize triggers of agitation, anxiety, and/or frustration, while constantly adjusting the environment to meet the needs of our residents.

Our Menu of Services Include:

● A nurturing, homelike setting especially designed for the needs
of residents with severe cognitive deficiencies
● Three kosher meals that are served daily
● 24-hour beverages and snacks
● Housekeeping, linen and personal laundry service
● All utilities, including cable television
● Transportation to doctor's appointments within a 20 mile radius
● 24-hour supervision by our professionally trained staff
● Assistance with medication, eating, bathing, dressing and grooming
● Activities professionally structured at the individual and group level
● Physical, speech and occupational therapy can be provided
on premises with a physicians prescription
